Summer is almost here, which means gorgeous weather, bare shoulders, and lots of fun. It also means you need to think about your skin more than ever. Some of us want that summer skin glow while others know that without protection, we’ll become lobster-red. All of us want to know what is in the products we use on our skin.  DIY sunblock and tanning oil is the best way to make sure you know what’s going on your body. Check out our favorite skin glowing recipes below!

Tanning Oil

Bronze your biceps with this plant-based recipe. You can whip it up in no time. 


  • 1 cup of coconut oil
  • ⅛ cup sunflower oil
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  1. Mix these together and apply! 

For a clever twist, add a few drops of essential oil to make your bronzing oil smell pleasant. There are many different tanning oils for various skin types. 

If this doesn’t work for you, try a different recipe out to make sure you get the one that looks best for you!

Keep yourself safe with your homemade sunscreen.


  • 1/4 cup coconut oil
  • 2 tablespoons of powdered zinc oxide (the protective SPF agent)
  • 1/4 cup aloe vera gel (easily make your own)
  • 1 cup shea butter


  1. Melt coconut oil and shea butter together over the stove, mixing together. 
  2. Let cool before adding the aloe vera gel. 
  3. Cool completely and stir in the zinc oxide.
  4. Voila! You have your own sunscreen!
